De Nederlandse Kastelenstichting en de Van der Wyck de Kempenaar Stichting nodigen u van harte uit voor het 19e internationale ENCOUNTER symposium dat plaatsvindt op woensdag 2 oktober 2019. Het symposium wordt gehouden in het Luther Museum te Amsterdam.
ENCOUNTER is het internationale netwerk van professionals en geïnteresseerden op het terrein van kastelen en buitenplaatsen voor Noord-Europa. Het symposium biedt u de gelegenheid tot ontmoeting en discussie met professionals.

Kastelen en buitenplaatsen lagen historisch gezien altijd buiten de steden, op een enkele uitzondering na. Daardoor wordt de belangrijke relatie met de stad vaak vergeten. Op dit symposium staat juist die band centraal, tussen buitenplaatsen en de stad. Natuurlijk was er de seizoensgebonden uittocht tussen stad en buitenverblijf, maar er zijn ook sociale, bestuurlijke en economische relaties tussen de stad, kasteel en buitenplaats. De sprekers gaan in op allerlei aspecten van de sterke banden die tussen stad en stedelingen en hun buitenplaatsen en kastelen bestonden.

The museum opened in June 2019. It is situated in the historical Wittenberg building. Built in 1772 as Evangelical-Lutheran Diaconal house for the Eldery.
