Komende week is er weer een veiling bij Bubb Kuyper. Magazijn van tuin-sieraaden van Gijsbert van Laar staat er tussen. De uitgave door Noman (1819). Heel leuk, maar Van Laar wordt vaker aangeboden. Veel specialer lijkt een manuscript van ene G. Bloemhoff: Bijzondere anmerkinge om de gronden wel te bereiden; de gebreikige te verbeeteren, en met keurige vrugt boomen en laaningen te beplanten. Waar bij gevoegt is Ene verhandelinge Aangaande het snoeijen, en voort-teelen van vrugt, en wilde boomen. In zonderheit eene nette beschrijvinge om Jaarlijks overvloedig Druijven in openlugt te hebben (…). Alles in de tijt van vijftig Jaaren ondervonden, aan geteekent en omstandig Beschreven (1771).

Kuyper zegt:
Interesting manuscript, containing extensive and detailed practical information on gardening, but also including portions on gardening in relation to the stars, planetary influence on gardening, weather forecasting on the basis of the clouds, the winds, the air, types of snow etc. The structure of the manuscript is as follows: I. (3) preliminary pages consisting of manuscript copies of 3 pages of the second part of the manuscript (p.143, 144 and 179); (5) blank pages; II. (44) unnumb. preliminary pages; III. 275 pages (numb. 1-199 and 100-174); 1 unnumb. page; IV. (38) letterpress pages (incl. several (full-p.) woodcut/ engr. ills.). The second part consists of various rhyming verses on the seasons, the months and also contains weather lore on rhyme (“Komt kers-tijt met een nieuwe maan, Een vrugtbaar Jaar volgt daar aan, Maar neemt de Maan af of is vol, Men zeit een quaad Jaar volgen sal”) and weather prognostications. The third part deals extensively with botanical matters, types of soil, various kinds of fruit trees and flowers, vinyards etc. Then follows a section in which the presumed author’s name, G. Bloemhoff, appears (on p.127[=227], under the title of the chapter called: “De profijtelyke Hovenier Aanwijsende de tijt en manier om een Hof te bezaaijen en te beplant.”) (the author’s name is also given in pencil on the title-p. of the manuscript); this chapter is followed by a section headed: “Tot een toegift, volgen. De Twalf Maanden van ’t Jaar als meede een Hoveniers-Almanach”. The final (printed) 38p. consist of various sections of Den Verstandigen Hovenier by P. Nyland (Amst., M. de Groot, ±1670). Nothing could be traced on the author G. Bloemhoff. A small old owner’s ticket is bound before the first page: “Ce livre appartient à J.C. Stevens Native d’Holland”.
